lets see… time is starting to fly
last week… wednesday i took the picture of my professor haha yep im a super creeper… but we think hes a bigger creeper cus every class i get forced to answer first… and i get super embarassed, ett voila
afterwards we went to caitlins friends apartment, ended up being super lame, people didnt go out until sooo late, i had fun dancing but there were just creepers at the place we were at and i just missed being able to be with my friends from home.
thursday i went running and saw black swan with two friends! it was sooo awesome, as everyones been saying haha it was kinda nice to see an american film and just veg out a little. i spent a lot of time researching for my spain trip and reading a book for class. in fact maybe black swan was friday, i cannot remember, i know saturday we went to the park the WHOLE day and literally played basketball for 7 hours! we played with some french guys but mainly with our friends and it was just such a beautiful day! needless to say i was sooo tired after.
Sunday it rained all day, i typed up notes from class and hung around the house, Roxanne, my host moms daughter visited with a friend so i talked and ate dinner with them. its really good practice because of all the slang and just because younger people talk faster but was a little bit of a headache too! I ended up going out after with some friends and it happened to be gay night haha so we got to dance to lady marmalade and grease and lots of oldies, no french songs though as usual.
monday i had class, sent paperwork to airfrance, haha as usual also, and went to a café with a friend to talk french and drink. we then ate dinner with those french guys ive mentioned before, good for talking but again a little bit of a headache and missing stuff cus of slang and them talking so quiet but overall went pretty good, im glad to talk with them for practice. then we watched OSS 117 i think its called, basically a parody of james bond but in french and a comedy. pretty ok but french haha i liked it though! i spent the rest of the night analysing my pronunciation mistakes and practicing words with online pronunciations haha i have started to feel like im stuck at the same level and really need to work to improve so, we will see. i also attempted some phrases out of a philippine phrase book, that was hillarious, i learned 'im lost from my group' 'no urinating in public' and 'i work at shoe mart', already forgot them but, interesting at the least
had a bunch of cultural, political discussions last week and its just really interesting to see that other countries dont even think like 'people abuse our social security' its like, yeah maybe some do but overall why would we not wanna help others, or why wouldnt we pay more taxes so everyones better off. also got called out in class to say what i thought of americas influence and globalization. its just, obviously what works for other countries wont work for us but it just proved to me as i tried to defend the us that our mentality is really what makes us so unique, the idea of the american dream and that you work to get what you want is SO strong that we dont even wanna help others with what weve earned cus WEVE earned it, however then i got thinking about how so many people in the US work so so sooo hard and do not really have anything to show for it anyway. there is such a big gap but no one is even happy it seems, the richest are on drugs and splurging, the poorest dont ask for help but just stay in the streets, and the middle class is stressed to keep things barely fitting from paycheck to paycheck. so what is the american dream really? the europeans were pointing out that they always here it is about having a yard and a car and a family, well yeah, a lot of people have those things but... the europeans with their apartments and public transit are doin pretty alright too haha, just interesting to compare
i spent wed and thursday just getting ready for my trip, researching and packing.
two months in and like i said, not really TIRED of anything yet
not really happy with my french yet
dont like that im 'missing things' at home but cannot stop thinking how lucky i am to be here.. and constantly think about all the hours i worked to have money to be here, all the schoolwork ive done to be able to speak here, all the times ive thought about 'living in france' and that im actually here... i still get excited to walk past a boulangerie, to hear someone speak french, not sure if i already blogged this but i was walking in the street and a man said 'bonsoir' in passing and i was just all giddy like ' that was a real french person that said that! im like a local' and so i guess the honeymoon stage for me is STILL not over.. but i do miss things from home now
